'Saving' summer tourism, some countries open to visitors in June

Although many countries have yet to encourage non-essential trips, 10 countries have announced that they will open for visitors again in June.

Last week, the European Commission announced a plan to "save" summer tourism, to help revive the tourism industry heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Accordingly, the border will be gradually reopened, in parallel with the continued implementation of medical measures and on-site testing.

Not only the EU, countries with economies highly dependent on tourism have also urgently prepared plans to reopen tourism right in June next.

Portugal

"Visitors are welcome in Portugal," Reuters news agency quoted Portuguese Foreign Minister Santos Silva as stating that a health check would be conducted at airports.

Portugal has relaxed the blockade by reopening a number of shops and restaurants from mid-March, now about to become one of the first European countries to welcome visitors back. However, since flights from outside the EU are not allowed until June 15, visitors will mainly come from Europe.

America

Florida Keys officials said the islands, which tourism is the economic lifeblood with half of the labor force doing the tourism-related work, hope to welcome visitors back from June 1 after "Closed" to tourism from March 22.

Disinfection and social gap measures will still be tested. The first phase only works with half of the accommodation capacity, by the end of June, the situation will be reassessed to make a new decision.

Mexico

Riviera Maya News reports that some of Mexico's tourist hotspots, including Cancun and Tunlum, and the Riviera Maya resort in southern Cancun, are hoping to revive their business by taking in tourism. International visitors are back from the beginning of June.

The reopening will be implemented in parallel with the plan to resume flights from the US, Canada and Europe. New hygienic protocols will be in place.

Similarly, the city of Los Cabos also announced plans to reopen in stages starting from 1/6.

Iceland

The Prime Minister of Iceland said that the island nation aims to open visitors from June 15, and still conduct a quarantine plan with all visitors. If a person is positive for SARS-CoV-2 by testing, it will be isolated for 14 days.

Greek

Greece hopes to welcome visitors back from mid-June, after imposing a blockade fairly soon.

Many Greek businesses have been working again since the beginning of May. Next, most non-essential businesses also resumed operations on May 18 - when travel restrictions in the country were lifted. Hotels are aiming to reopen on June 1 and guests are invited to arrive in mid-June.

It is reported that the Covid-19 test will be performed at airports, the body temperature test will be performed at hotels and restaurants.

Italy

The Italian government has announced a plan to allow resumption of international tourism on June 3, meaning an end to regulations requiring 14-day isolation.

However, initially only European visitors could come here, because the EU requires member states to remain closed to non-European borders until June 15.

The island of Sicily has also offered to pay half the flight cost for travelers and one-third of the hotel cost if they come here by the end of the year.

Saint Lucia

The Government of Saint Lucia has announced its reopening to visitors from June 4 in stages. It was then that the international flight was expected to be resumed.

You will be required to submit negative test results and body temperature tests at airports, hotels and restaurants. Also need to wear a mask and comply with social spacing regulations.

Antigua and Barbuda

Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez announced through an online press conference that: American Airlines flight from Miami to June 4 will mark Antigua and Barbuda reopening tourism.

This is the first international passenger flight to Antigua and Barbuda within 10 weeks, opening the daily flight schedule.

The country also plans to implement new medical measures, whereby anyone who comes here needs to submit a negative test result to Covid-19.

Spain

According to Transport Minister José Luis Ábalos, Spain aims to welcome visitors back from the end of June.

A mandatory 14-day quarantine is carried out for people arriving in Spain carried out last week. But Mr. Ábalos said that such regulations and travel restrictions will gradually be lifted.

Aruba
