Tourist after the epidemic season is no longer so fond of discounts?
Date : 2020-05-30

The changing trend after the translation makes tourism and local business units need to adjust to attract visitors.

The year 2020 marks many major changes for the Vietnamese tourism industry due to the Covid-19 pandemic. International visitors are no longer available, domestic tourism is focused on domestic tourists. However, the order of social spacing of about one month has made the tourist trend of the domestic market change.

In order to understand the new trend of tourists, the Tourism Advisory Council (TAB) conducted a survey from May 13-19, with a total of 1,826 participants.

Sharing in a press conference with the press on the afternoon of May 28, Mr. Hoang Nhan Chinh, Head of the TAB Secretariat, said focusing on the discount is not enough to stimulate tourism again. When conducting the survey, the TAB asked why you made the trip.

The results surprised many people because 32.5% chose the criteria "safe and secure tourism destination". In addition, 36.2% are concerned about services and travel destinations that are safe for disease. The number of people interested in travel services incentives is only 19.2%.

According to Mr. Chinh, the tourism units and businesses seem to be too focused on discounting and treating it as a "keyword" to stimulate demand.

"Increasing unemployment rate affects social security. People have absolutely a basis for worrying about security issues. Stakeholders should not be too focused on seeking incentives but should focus on security issues. security and safety before the epidemic, "Mr. Chinh shared his view.

Short-term tourism trends also "throne" after the interval. Accordingly, the majority of tourists are interested in 2-3 day trips (49.3%). The number of people planning to make a 4-7-day trip falls to 37.8%. According to analysis from TAB, Covid-19 has a major impact on budget spending. In addition, the fact that children have very short summer holidays is another reason.

When asked "who will you travel with?", Most respondents responded to their family (59.8%). The number of respondents only 29.2% of friends. The TAB commented that this was an influence of the Covid-19 pandemic. Habits from social exacerbations still exist so people tend to choose to follow familiar groups such as family and friends.

In the past, the TAB used to survey Thailand tourism to understand why up to 70% of tourists said they would return to this country. "Through the analysis, we found that European, North American or Australian guests are very focused on family tours. Therefore, Thailand is a good choice. They have babysitting services right at the resort, Hotels and many safari to explore.

Before the time of the epidemic, Vietnamese units often followed the number of guests without paying attention to attracting family guests. If you make tourism products specific to this group, the likelihood of attracting them back will be very high, "Chinh argued.

The prolonged time of social spacing has increased the trend of using online services (delivery, meeting ...). This has a great impact on the way guests book hotels / tours. According to the survey, 44.2% of respondents answered the booking via online platform. TAB thinks this will be a trend in the near future.

Traveling to sea is still the most popular choice in summer with 67.1%. However, the number of natural tourist sites such as mountains or ecotourism areas also increased sharply, at 31.2% and 25.2%, respectively. TAB representative commented that the spread of tourist destinations, not focusing on the sea will create a sustainable tourism trend.

To revive the tourism industry, TAB said it is necessary to focus on restructuring tourism products and tourism businesses. Localities need to develop stimulus programs according to the roadmap with decreasing incentive levels (for the first 1-2 months free of charge, then 50% off until the end of the year).

In addition, the issue of environmental sanitation and safety at tourist destinations should also be a top priority. TAB also suggested that the Department of Tourism should focus on promoting advertising through communication channels, celebrities ...
