You love to travel abroad but are not quite into visa application thing? Don't worry, this is not going to bother you anymore. Here are countries that offer visa exemption to Vietnam citizens.
You can definitely travel to a lot of amazing places just with your passport which is still valid and do not have to apply for a visa. How many countries have exempted visa to Vietnam?

There are 3 passport categories for Vietnamese citizens:
- Diplomatic Passport (HCNG): issued to government diplomats traveling abroad.
- Official passports (HCCV): issued to government officials traveling abroad for official business .
- Ordinary passport (HCPT): issued to all Vietnamese citizens, having a household registration, identity card, full citizenship and used for the purpose of traveling, studying or residing abroad.
Countries that offer visa exemption to Vietnam citizens
These below countries exempt visas for Vietnamese citizens having ordinary passports that are still valid for at least 6 month, with 30-day duration of stay.
- Thailand: exempts visas for ordinary passport holders with 30-day duration of stay
- Singapore: exempts visas for ordinary passport holders with 30-day duration of stay. The person must have roundtrip flights or fly to another country and can afford the expenses while temporarily residing in Singapore or moving to another country.
- Laos: exempts visas for ordinary passport holders with 30-day duration of stay. If the person wants to stay longer than 30 days, a visa application is required and the visa can be extended twice, 30 days for each time.
- Cambodia: exempts visas for ordinary passport holders with 30-day duration of stay.
- The Phillipines: exempts visas for ordinary passport holders with 21-day duration of stay. The person must have a passport valid for at least 6 months and roundtrip flights or fly to another country.
- Myanmar: The person must have a passport valid for at least 6 months with 14-day duration of stay. ( Vietnam- Myanmar agrrement took place from 26/10/2013)
- Indonesia: Vietnamese citizens regardless of passport types are exempt from visa with 30-day duration of stay. The temporary residence can not be extended.
- Brunei: exempts visas for ordinary passport holders with 14-day duration of stay.
- Malaysia: exempts visas for any passport holders with 30-day duration of stay.
- Kyrzgyzstan: exempts visas for HCNG, HCCV and HCPT passport holders
- Panama: exempts visas and visitor card for purpose of traveling
- Ecuador: exempts visas for any passport holders with 90-day duration of stay.
- Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: exempts visas for all citizens. However, you need to provide proof of finance, valid passport and roundtrip flights
- Haiti: Acording to Haiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs, only citizens of Colombia, Dominica Republic and Panama are required entry visas to this countries. Citizens from other countries are exempt from visas with 90-day duration of stay.
- Turks and Caicos: Turks and Caicos islands are parts of the UK and Northern Ireland. To boost the tourism, the territory exempts visas for citizens from many countries including Vietnam. You just need to provide roundtrip ticket flights then you can stay for a period of 30 days and extend your visa one more time.
- Jeju Island (South Korea): Vietnamese tourists are exempted from visa when coming to Jeju Island; but must still have need a normal visa to other places in South Korea. However; There is no direct flight from Vietnam to Jeju Island so you will have to transit to another country. In case Vietnamese tourists already have valid visas (stamp- on-passport type) of 5 countries: United States, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, they are allowed to enter South Korea without a visa. It is imperative that tourists have tickets of the next flight.
- Taiwan: Visitors from countries such as; Vietnam, India, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia (having valid visas and resident cards); The United States, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, Schengen (European Union), Australia and New Zealand are also exempt from visas for 30 days upon arrival in Taiwan. However; you need to register online for approval, after you are approved, you can do the check-in at the airport and enter Taiwan.
- Dominican Republic: Vietnamese citizens with a valid visitor visa or legally residing in the United States, Canada and the European Union (including the United Kingdom) can travel to this country with a travel card. (visitor card) and valid passport.
– Costa Rica: If you have a visa (tourist, crew or entry visa for business purposes) which is valid for at least 3 months and has an immigration stamp to USA, Canada, Japan, Korea, Schengen, you will be allowed to enter Costa Rica. Similarly to Vietnamese citizens who are legally residing in the above countries and regions (resident, employee/ employer, overseas student) are also allowed to enter Costa Rica if the visa validity is 6 months or more.
Countries / territories that you can easily apply for a visa on arrival
- Maldives: Maldives do not requires a visa in advance and can issue visas on arrival. You just need to provide roundtrip flight tickets, hotel booking and the immigration officer will stamp the visa on your passport (valid for more than 6 months); This visa is valid for 30 days. However, they also have a "Employment Prohibited" mark to prevent workers from coming here to work under this visitor visa.
- East Timor: East Timor does not require a visa issued in Vietnam. You can just fly to their airport. There East Timor Customs will issue you an entry visa with a fee of 30 USD. Note that you must present 100 USD for each entry. The aforementioned amount is just presented to them and not used for payment. You must also show your roundtrip flight tickets.
- Nepal: Located between India and China is the small country of Nepal. You only need to prepare money in USD to pay the visa fee (USD 20 for a 15-day visa), 2 passport photos and a blank page of your passport.
- India: Vietnam is one of the few countries that their citizens are allowed to apply for visas at 4 airports in India: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. However; visas at the Indian airports are single entry visas and are valid for 30 days with a fee of 60 USD. Contact the Indian embassy or consulate in Vietnam for more information if you want to apply for a multiple entry visas or stay longer.
- Sri Lanka: Famous for tea and its heritage, the beautiful island nation of Sri Lanka always welcomes international visitors. You only need to apply for a visa online, pay by card, wait for the results, print the confirmation letter and bring it to the airport to do check-in at Sri Lanka.
- United Arab Emirates (UAE): Emirates and Etihad are the two UAE airlines having flights from Vietnam. Emirates airlines fly straight to Dubai while Etihad ones arrive at Abu Dabhi. If you have tickets from these two agencies, you can easily apply for a visa online or contact them for detailed instructions at its office in Ho Chi Minh City. You can also buy Stop Over packages for no more than 96 hours including the visa if you transit through the UAE.
- Iran: Vietnam ordinary passport holders can get visas at Iran border gates. The visa validity is 17 days and cost 50 USD. According to Immigration information in Tehran, you are required to bring your passport photos for visas on arrival. In some cases, however, they do not need your photos.
- Many African countries, including Senegal, visas will be issued online. You can register online and receive a visa application form. You should fill in the information and submit it at the border. You then will be issued a visa on arrival. The fee is 50 Euro.
Countries / territories that offer free-of-charge visas
- Algeria, Afghanistan, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Romania, Cuba: these countries issue visas to Vietnamese with valid ordinary passports and do not charge visa fees.
