INFOMATION ABOUT MALAYSIA
1. Dress Requirement:
Lightweight, comfortable pants are considered suitable for all seasons of the year in Malaysia. In order to avoid causing public outrage, female travelers should wear clothes that cover both legs and biceps. It should be noted that shorts are not popular on the street, except in the sea. Long pants will make a good impression. As it rains and the weather is erratic in Malaysia, travelers should bring their umbrellas
2. Electricity: 220-240 volts AC, 50Hz. Three-pin plugs are commonly used.
3. Proportion of society
Malay society is influenced by various religions and cultures, with various codes of conduct between Malay Muslims, Indian Indians and Chinese Catholics. The greeting in Bahasa Melayu is "selamat", but the Malay people often use the Arabic phrase "assalamualaikum", which means "Peace is with you" to say hello to each other. The standard name for a Malay man is Enrik, but the name does not necessarily refer to a man, an unmarried Malaysian woman often referred to as Cik ( English is Che) and the married woman is called Puan.
Placing your hands on your chest is a sign of respect, and a light touch with a relaxed wrist is usually acceptable when shaking hands. Chinese and Indians prefer to be called Western. People often express their hospitality and express themselves freely. When eating with the use of hands, only use the right hand. Tourists should respect religious beliefs and must follow what Malays do, especially to dress up with them. Shoes must be left outside when entering people's homes or pagodas. Out of the workplace, ordinary people usually wear casual clothes such as not too comfortable.
4. Language
Bahasa Melayu is the official language of Malay but English is more widely used. Other languages such as Chinese (Cantonese and Hokkien), iban and tamin are only used by some small groups.
5. Opening hours
All the hours of the day, but the big stores, and the malls usually open at 10am to 10pm.
6. Payment:
Shops accept MasterCard, Visa and American Express payment. Diners Club is generally accepted in major stores or commercial centers or luxury hotels and restaurants. Credit cards are not usually used in the suburbs - Travelers should bring cash or checks for convenience when needed.
7. Check of tourists
Acceptable at banks, hotels or business centers. Most forms of traveler's checks are acceptable, but travelers are encouraged to bring checks in the British Pound, US Dollar or Australian Dollar.
8. Exchange rate:
AUD 1 = MYR 2.79
EUR 1 = MYR 4.36
GBP 1 = MYR 5.18
USD 1 = MYR 3.28
9. Malaysian Specials:
Nasi Lemak (steamed rice with coconut milk, served with anchovy, sambal chili, beans and eggs) is a national dish, usually found in all parts of the Malay territory.
Char Kway Teow (Fried Rice with Meat or Fish) is a popular and cheap fast food.
Nasi goring is a favorite dish often sold at street stalls or night markets. This is a good take away for long journeys by bus.
Roti Canai (toasted bread with a curry sauce) is a delicious and cheap snack popular in Malaysia, more suitable when used together with tea teh tarik.
Rendang daging (re-cooked beef cooked with lemongrass and coconut) is delicious, bold, often served in the festival.
10. Money: The invoice includes 10% service charge and 5% tax and is included in the menu price.
11. Food - drinks
Food is always one of the highlights when traveling to Malaysia, but hygiene standards are still of little interest. You can enjoy the food in the restaurant, the stalls on the street or in the night market because the food is often processed in the house. Only eat well-known foods and avoid food drying out. Avoid ice cream or other unpasteurized dairy foods because they can be defrosted and frozen. The fountains in the big cities are safe but most people drink bottled water. In other places, water may be contaminated - you should drink water that is boiled or sterilized. Take caution with ice, as these ice can be obtained from polluted water sources. Unmanaged milk can be boiled - Milk used in tea must be boiled or processed.
