Under the provisions of the Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam No. 47/2014 / QH13 issueing the regulation on varied symbols of visa types and visa durations for foreigners to enter Vietnam as follows:

Directory of visa catergories issued to foreigners:

NG1 Visa: issued to members of  delegations of the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President, President of the National Assembly and Prime Ministe

NG2 Visa: issued to members of the delegation of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vice President, Vice President of the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam.

NG3 Visa: issued to members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations under the UN, representative offices of intergovernmental organizations and their spouses, children under 18 years old and helpers.

NG4 Visa: issued to people working at diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations affiliated to the United Nations, representative offices of intergovernmental organizations; people visiting members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations affiliated to the United Nations and representative offices of intergovernmental organizations.

LV1 Visa: issued to people working at Communist Party Central Committee's agencies, agencies and units; The National Assembly, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuracy, the State Audit, ministries, ministerial-level agencies and government-attached agencies. ; provincial party committee, city party committee, People's Council, People's Committee of province or city under central authority.

LV2: issued to people working for socio-political organizations, social organizations, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

ĐT: issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and foreign lawyers practicing in Vietnam.

DN Visa: issued to people working with Vietnamese businesses

NN1 Visa: issued to people who are heads of representative offices and projects of international organizations and foreign non-governmental organizations in Vietnam.

NN2 Visa: issued to heads of representative offices, branches of foreign traders, representative offices of foreign economic, cultural and professional organizations in Vietnam.

NN3 Visa: issued to people working at foreign non-governmental organizations, representative offices, branches of foreign traders, representative offices of foreign economic, cultural and other professional organizations in Vietnam.

DH Visa: issued for students/apprentice

HN Visa: issued for people attending conferences

​PV1 Visa: issued for journalists permanently residing in Vietnam

PV2 Visa: issued for journalists temporarily residing in Vietnam

LĐ Visa : issued for labour

DL Visa : issued for tourists                                                         

• TT Visa : issued to foreigners who are spouses, children under 18 of the foreigners issued with LV1, LV2, ĐT, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LĐ visas or foreigners who are parents, wives, husband and children of Vietnamese citizens.
• VR Visa: issued for people visiting relatives or for other purpose.
• SQ Visa: for these cases:

People who have a business relationship with a Vietnamese visa-issuing authority abroad and their spouses or children or people having a written request of a competent authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the host country

People who have the sponsorship letter of the diplomatic missions or consular offices of the countries located in the host countries.

Vietnam visa duration is regulated as follow:

SQ Visa is valid within 30 days

HN, DL Visa is valid within 3 months

VR Visa is valid within 6 months

NG1, NG2, NG 3, NG4, LV1, LV2, DN, NN1, NN2,NN3, DH, PV1, PV2 and TT Visas are valid within 12 months

LĐ Visa is valid within 2 years

ĐT Visa is valid within 5 years

When visa is expired, a new one will be reviewed

Visa duration is at least 30 days shorter than passport duration or any documents for international travel.
