1. Who needs to apply for China visas?

- Foreign citizens want to enter China for tourism, business or visting relatives

2. Do tourists wanting to enter China need to have a visa in advance? Can they apply for ones at the border gates?

- If you intend to travel to China and need to apply for a China visa, you need to hand in the documents at the Embassy/ Consulate General of China in the hosting countries.

-  Tourists can apply for a pass at the border gate, which allows tourists to enter inland China within 150 km from the border. If you go deeper, you must apply for a visa.

3. After successfully applying for a China visa, can you extend the visa at the Embassy?

- You cannot extend your China visa because getting a visa requires approval from the Embassy / Consulate. If in case your trip time is changed and longer than the visa validity, you need to prepare a new China visa application, the previously issued visa will be terminated even if it's still valid.

- In case your trip exceeds the visa validity and you have entered China, you must go to the Immigration Office of the local police department to apply for a change of visa type or to extend temporary residence before this period expires, the police will make a decision to approve the visa change or extension  on the basis of Chinese laws and regulations.

4. What does the information on the visa indicate?

- Issue date: The visa is valid from the date of issue. You can use the visa from the issue date to the date of expiry.

- Date of expiry: Visa will expire at exactly 24:00 (Beijing GMT) afterwards. You'll be denied if you try to use this visa to enter.

- Duration of stay: the longest time you can stay in China from the entry date. The duration of stay for each entry is seperated . After entering China, you can still stay there within the duration of stay even if your visa has expired.

- Entries: Single (01), Double (02), Multiple (M) means that during the visa validity, you are allowed to enter China once, twice or many times.

Note: Citizens holding visa type F (except ones that state " Allowed to stay for 30 days upon entry"),  X1, Q1, S1, J1, D, need to go to local police department for temporary residence procedure.
