Date : 2020-05-28

Seoul never disappoints shopping souls and junk food lovers! At night, the city becomes more lively when people and tourists invite each other to the streets to shop and "fight" overnight. The main focus is the Seoul night markets!

First opened in Yeouido in October 2015, the Seoul Bamdokkaebi Night Market is often referred to as the night market that opens at night and disappears in the morning. "Bam" means "night" in Korean, while dokkaebi refers to a Korean fairytale character who appears at night to deceive people and disappear during the day.

This year, the market will be held at the following locations: Yeouido Hangang Park, Banpo Hangang Park, Dongdaemun Design Center (DDP), Cheonggyecheon Stream and Oil Tank Cultural Park. Because the market does not have a fixed meeting in a specific place, this is what makes it so special, giving visitors different experiences in different locations. They are held every Friday and Saturday at different times of the year from March to October.

Moreover, there is a retro atmosphere thanks to the Memory Lane Project, an event that often reminds the past, bringing the sound of the 30s and 40s.

A walk along the Cheonggyecheon Canal at 9pm will take you to Pyounghwa Fashion Town, which has been trading in clothing and fashion accessories since the end of the Korean War. According to the official website of Korea Tourism, North Korean refugees in 1953 began selling clothes made from US military uniforms. In the hope of surviving that difficult situation, the market was named Pyounghwa, meaning peace, in the hope that there would be no more war in this country.

Divided into four zones - Gu Pyounghwa, Shin Pyounghwa, Dong Pyounghwa and Cheong Pyounghwa, Pyounghwa Fashion Town is a historic fashion hub, starting the development of today's Dongdaemun shopping district. The open-air markets close at 5am.
