South Korea launch tourism promotion MICE tourism after Covid-19

South Korea has emerged in recent years as an ideal destination for both leisure activities, as well as MICE travel.

According to statistics in 2017, the number of foreign visitors in the form of tourism combined with meetings and rewarding tourism to Korea was 671,046. 2018 also witnessed a record growth in international tourist arrivals to the Northeast Asian country with 17.5 million visitors, surpassing the record number of 17.24 million visitors in 2016.

In 2020, while seeing a decline in international tourist arrivals due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic at the beginning of the year, South Korea planned to recover and promote MICE tourism in the second half. 2020.

According to the original plan, the Roadshows Program on Korean MICE tourism will be launched in late March, starting in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and continuing through major cities in China and Vietnam. However, due to the complicated situation of the disease, the event had to be pushed back to the second half of the year.

The Roadshow Delegation will include senior officials from the Korean MICE Tourism Promotion Agency, and local tourism promotion representatives, including the Seoul, Incheon, Busan, Gangwon, and Jeju Tourism Promotion Agencies. Other representatives come from resorts, hotels, and attractions.

The Roadshow program will include activities such as exhibitions, information exchange and Gala dinner, to provide opportunities to meet potential partners and expand MICE tourism development network.

“The spread of the Covid-19 epidemic around the world has caused devastating effects to businesses involved in the Korean MICE tourism industry in early 2020. However, the Government is making efforts. actively to prevent the spread of the virus, and prepare a plan to promote Korea as a destination for MICE tourism in the second half of this year, ”said the Executive Director of the MICE Tourism Promotion Department.
