Foreign citizens wanting to enter India must apply for India visas at the Embassy of India or Consulate General of India in their base countries unless they're citizens of countries that are exempt from India visas. India has implemented the E-visa policy for foreign citizens since 27 November 2014.
Nationals that are exempt from India visas and have unlimited duration of stay
- Maldives citizens: a maximum of 90 days, Bhutan, Nepal and foreign nationals holding Indian citizenship certification are also exempt from visas.

- Japanese citizens entering India for purposes of business, tourism or meeting may apply for a 30-day visa at one of the following border gates: Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai. Please note that Visas at the checkpoint can only be issued no more than 2 times a year.
India E-visa policy
- E-visa policy has been implemented by India goverment since 2014. Initially, this visa was issued to citizens of 40 countries, later extended to more than 113 countries and territories. E-visa applications must be made at least 4 days before the expected date of entry. The visa is valid for one or two times. Citizens can stay from 30 to 60 days for each entry, can not extend their duration of stay and can only apply for 2 times a year.

Things you need to know about India visa application
- Normally, visas will be valid from entry date to a country. However, Indian visas are valid from the date of visa issuance. You need to pay attention to this and arrange your schedule accordingly.
- You must complete the application clearly in bold letters. This is the Embassy's regulation, if the applicant fails to do so, his/her profile will be considered invalid.
- Bring your original passport when submitting documents
-Documents must be notarized and verified by local notary public or local people's committee.
- The Consulate / Embassy recommends that visa applicants should not participate in any financial commitments such as air tickets before receiving results of visa application.
- For Indian Business Visa, documents prepared by Indian companies must not only be sent by mail to their Vietnamese partners but also faxed to the Indian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City or the India Embassy in Hanoi.
- The fee for Indian visa issuance varies by visa type.
Required documents for India visa application
- Passport, in original and copy (with a minimum validity of six months)
- 2 photograph of the specified size (5x5cm)
- ID card
- Filled in India visa application form.

Proof of profession
- Business owner: Copy of Business registration certificate, tax reports for the latest 6 months.
- Employee: Workplace Certification, notarized copy of Labor contract , original English vacation request letter.
- Retired person: pension book and health insurance / social insurance (if any)
- Pupils / students: Student card, student verification, academic records and birth certificate for applicants under 18 years old.
Proof fo Finance
- Confirmation of bank balance of 5000USD at minimun with red stamp from the bank
- Copy of saving book (if any).
- Documents of household ownership (if any).
For India Business visa applicants:
- Invitation letter from Indian Company sent by mail to Vietnamese company and faxed to Consulate General / Embassy of India in Vietnam
- Indian company's business registration certificate
- Copy of the inviter's passport
- Original of decision to send employee
Duration and visa validity
- Indian visa is valid for 1 year, multiple entries, 90-day duration of stay.
- Indian Visa applications are processed in 5-7 working days, emergency visas can be made in 2 days.
