Your USA visa is getting close to to expiry date but you're stil struggling at how to extend your visa validity. No need to worry as we are going to share with you some useful information about USA visa extension.

Conditions

You will be eligible for the visa extension program if you meet all of the following criteria:

• You're not going to the USA or using USA visa within the next 8-10 days

• You're a Vietnamese citizen, or verified Vietnamese resident 

• You're currently living in Vietnam

• You have a USA non-immigrant visa, excluding visa type E,H,L,P or R, your visa is either valid or was invalid less than 12 months ago.

• You're applying for the  same machine-readable non immigrant visa ( issued to applicant above 14 years old having fingerprinted 10 fingers)

• You can hand in your passport with previous USA visa

• Your most recent visa is still valid (12-month validity and miltiple entry)

• If you're a student and hasnt left USA within 5 months since your graduation unless your activities overseas are related to the course.

• You did not answer "YES" to any question in the Security and Background of the DS - 160 form and your visa was approved in the final interview.

Visa extension profile

Passport

- Passport, in original (with a minimum validity of six months since the expected arrival date in USA). If the expired visa is in an old passport, you need to bring that passport with you.

Visa application form

- Visa application DS-160 form with barcode. Fill in and send on the DS-160 website. You don't need to go through a complete visa procedure. You just ned to print out the form with clear barcode.

Photograph of specified size

- 1 photo on plain blackground, non photoshopped and taken within the past 6 months. Attach it on the left top of the DS-160 form

Receipt of payment of fees to apply for a US visa extension (both pink and yellow copies)

If you use EMS, there will be "your fee is pre-paid" quote on EMS envelope.

For those who apply for US diplomatic visa extension by using  passport, applicants  are required to submit additional documents:

- The original diplomatic note of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam

- A copy of the decision to dispatch the diplomatic mission from the governing body.

- Flight schedule (no need for a copy of tickets, just a copy of flight schedule)

For student and exchange visitor visa extension (F, M, J) applicants  are required to submit additional documents:

- Forms I-20 and DS-2019 - signed at the bottom of page 1. In case the applicant applying for student visa extension is under 18,  a form I-210 signed by parents, guarantor and the school official are required.

- All academic transcripts in the US.

Some notes

The US Embassy can still require a personal interview or requests any necessary information if they doubts your eligiblity to apply for visa extension. You should hand in your profile at least 3 weeks before your departure date.
