In the days leading up to Lunar New Year, as the year-end pace of life becomes increasingly hectic with cleaning, shopping, and constant travel, many people begin to consider an alternative option for the early-year holiday: traveling instead of staying at home. This trend is no longer unfamiliar, but in recent years it has become increasingly evident, especially among young families, couples, and people working in major urban areas.

 

For many people, Tết is no longer just a series of busy days filled with visiting relatives and attending gatherings, but a precious time to rest, recharge, and begin the new year in a more relaxed way. As a result, traveling is increasingly seen as a form of “proactive Tết celebration,” where each individual can choose a pace of life that suits them.

There is no need for long trips or tightly packed itineraries; most travelers opt for short journeys of 3–5 days, focusing on relaxation and light experiences. Destinations with stable weather, sunny conditions, and all-inclusive services—such as coastal areas in Central and Southern Vietnam or major tourist cities—are often preferred due to their convenience and fewer unexpected issues during peak season.

Notably, instead of traditional tour packages, many people now choose flight-and-hotel combo deals, which allow for flexible schedules, independent exploration, and a truly restful experience. This approach aligns well with the mindset of “traveling to unwind,” helping avoid the feeling of being constrained during the early days of the year.

Beyond relaxation, early-year travel also carries a spiritual meaning. For many, starting the new year with a trip is seen as a way to “change fortune,” creating a sense of smooth and positive beginnings. Moments such as watching the sunrise by the sea, strolling through streets in early spring, or simply enjoying a leisurely meal far from home offer emotional value that not every traditional Tết celebration can provide.
